PPLE - Tom's Case
Tom's Case refers to this assessment which was designed for students to act as a faculty to manage and cater for a student's specific and diverse needs.
In this assignment, we had to identify four issues from a short text-based character profile. Our group targeted Under performance in Academics, Reluctance to follow teacher instruction, Relational difficulties and Significant Socio-Economic Disadvantage. |

This Pedagogy for Positive Learning Environments assessment helped me demonstrate standards:
1.3: With the purpose of the assignment to target a student with specific needs, i demonstrated this standard through the systematic research and hyptheticial application of this research through the assessment. My component from the group project specifically detailed 'Significant Socio-Economic Disadvantage'. Some of these strategies included providing Tom (an artificial students) with clothes and resources as well as more support from the teacher to achieve the desired outcomes.
5.4: Part of this assignment was developing data to interpret, and to assess the student to see how they could improve their students ability to reach outcomes. Part of this was assessing data, in relationship with WHY the data reflected poor achievement. Poor results could be from a number of factors, so it is about analysing and interpreting this data.

This assessment was more group-work where we had to create a mock teacher intervention plan. The idea is that this would be an example of a faculty or group of teachers coming together to solve an issue with a student. I believe regular meetings would be effective, to hopefully ensure that students achievement never reaches the point where the word 'intervention' applies to a student. However, it is good to go through that process at some level.
