Professional Practice 1 & 2
To effectively demonstrate my growth as a teacher, i have decided to link these two units together. These units will demonstrate my growth as a teacher, drawing from many sources.
This is a short example of a lesson plan that i created during my time at St Clair. It lacks detail, and clear instruction for students understanding.
It is structured, but reading this back now one year later, i honestly have little understanding of what this lesson was supposed to entail. It's not to say that i did not have any successful lessons at St Clair High School. In particular, one of my favourite lessons involved the use of Sus Chords. This task can be found on my Music Blog page here: variations-of-the-major-chord.html I really enjoyed my time at St Clair, in particular developing such a fantastic rapport with many students. |
To the right, is a lesson plan designed for Year 10. This lesson gives students an understanding of Pedal Point - a music concept involving alternating notes over a repeated pedal tone - and follows a blooms approach. It begins with a demonstration, followed by an application where students identify pedal point from an Eddie Van Halen guitar solo. Students are then scaffold in terms of chords, and how they can go about creating their own pedal point riff. They then create their own riff. In this lesson, i went a little under time, so i extended students by allowing the class as a whole to create a pedal-point inspired improvisation, not unlike Van Halen. The lesson was a success, mostly due to the planning involved, but also i believe to the experience of that i now have as a teacher. |
